FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
February 14, 2002
Online tax preparation program first to be ready
to prepare 2002 tax returns
When the CRA opened the door for Canadians to begin
NetFiling on February 10, UFile.ca will had already
helped thousands of traditional early bird taxpayers
to prepare, print, and file their tax returns for 2002.
NetFile is the CRA's system for electronic filing of
tax returns over the Internet. On February 10, UFile
was fully NetFile certified.
UFile.ca is developed by Dr Tax Software, now the only
Canadian-owned tax preparation software company in the
PC consumer and professional markets. Furthermore, due
to the recent takeover of one of its competitors UFile
is now one of only two online tax software options for
Canadian PC users. With respect to traditional boxed
tax software products, the takeover has left a virtual
monopoly at the retail store level.
UFile's interactive online tax preparation application
allows the user to prepare the simplest to the most
difficult Canadian income tax returns in either official
language, regardless of the province of residence.
The UFile design incorporates the same software technology
found in the Dr Tax professional tax program that has
been widely used by Canadian tax professionals for over
15 years. Released in 1999 to coincide with the CRA's
introduction of NetFile, UFile has steadily increased
its market share
over the past three years as consumers continue to migrate
to the Web for secure services like banking, trading,
and tax preparation. The overwhelming popularity and
reliability of the CRA's NetFile service has contributed
to UFile's success at attracting tax filers.
This year, UFile has partnered with MoneySense.ca
and Sympatico.ca,
two other well-known Canadian Internet portals to provide
tax tools and information that will help Canadian taxpayers
navigate through another tax season.
