FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
February 1st, 2002
Federal efile for T2 tax returns has been a long time
coming and now that the CRA is ready, Dr Tax Software
is the only tax software provider yet to have obtained
efile certification.
The CRA's completeness rules now require that the
tax preparers work through the tax software to provide
information to substantiate all values appearing on
the tax return. This makes the development of an efile
certified product more difficult as safeguards against
unsubstantiated values must be built into the software
in order for efile approval to be obtained. Explains
Dr Tax's vice-president and general manager Malcolm
Campbell: "The design of our DT Max T2 program
copes well with these new rules because it does not
allow tampering with the final return."
As the CRA continues to develop its Netfile system
to enable T2 tax returns to be filed electronically
over the Internet, it is expected that the system will
not be ready for use for another 12 months.
Electronic filing of federal T2's will make corporate
tax filing more efficient by saving paper and reducing
processing time. Only the following types of corporate
returns must still be filed on paper:
non-residents
corporations with SR&ED deductions
insurance companies
corporations filing amended returns
With the sale of TaxByte, Dr Tax Software of Montreal,
Quebec, is now the only wholly Canadian-owned, operated
and controlled developer of professional tax software
for all Canadian provinces. Dr Tax has been involved
in the development of efile technology since its introduction
by the CRA in the early 1990's. As well as its T2 program,
Dr Tax produces DT Max T1 and UFile.ca, a tax application
residing on the Web for the home market.
This year, Dr Tax Software released its new product,
DT NetLink, the Internet tax data collector and only
product of its kind in Canada. DT NetLink enables taxpayers
to input their information from anywhere in the world.
The information can be downloaded seamlessly by their
accountant into the DT Max T1 program.
